Blocked by Windows Firewall

If the connection between your app and computer won't work and Windows Firewall is running, it might be being blocked.

Unblock/Allow program (Administrator)

  1. Open the Windows Firewall configuration (Click on Start >> Run and enter "firewall.cpl")
  2. On the left click on "Allow a program or feature through Windows Firewall"
  3. Search for the name of the program
  4. It is listed:
    1. Make sure private is checked.
    2. If you're on a public network: check public as well
  5. It is not listed:
    1. Click on "Allow another program"
    2. Choose the program and click "Add"

Unblock/Allow port (Administrator)

  1. Open the Windows Firewall configuration (Click on Start >> Run and enter "firewall.cpl")
  2. On the left click on "Advanced settings"
  3. This opens a window where firewall rules can be seen and added
  4. Click on "inbound rules" (on the left side) and then on "new rule" (on the right side)
  5. A dialog for adding a new inbound rule shows up
  6. Select port and click next
  7. Select the type of protocol (TCP/UDP) and enter in the textbox the port to allow and click next
  8. Select "allow connection" and click next
  9. Check all checkboxes and click next
  10. Enter for an inbound rule the name "[NAME OF PROGRAM] - Web Service (TCP-IN)" (replace [NAME OF PROGRAM] with the name of the program) and for an outbound rule the name "[NAME OF PROGRAM] - Web Service (TCP-OUT)" (replace [NAME OF PROGRAM] with the name of the program) to identify the rules
  11. Now click on "outbound rules" (on the left side) and then on "new rule" (on the right side)
  12. Follow steps 5 to 10 (make sure to enter the right name)
  13. If the port changes, edit those rules for the right port!
